The site is about 4 kms from Mumbai-Pune/Goa
Highway No.4. Nearest railway station: Panvel on
Suburban Railways and also on Konkan Rly. Bus Tansport
from Panvel St Bus Depot Platform no.2 for
Harigram Shantikunj Bus Stop.
Activities
:
The Trust started with the seed capital of Rs.33 lakhs
saved out with a strict control on expenditure during a
grand festival of yajnas held during Navaratri in 1997,
received full support for this project full of welfare
activities
like Human Relief, Medical Relief and Educational
Advancements requiring an outlay of Rs.15 crores. The
Ashram is on a land admeasuring 15 acres was in a rural
setting in the lap of Sahyadri Mountains on the banks of
an ever flowing rivulet, not far off from Mumbai. All
the Swamijis of Sarawat Gurupeethas, Shri Kashi Math,
Shri Gokarn Math, Shri Kavle Math and Shri Chitrapur
Math individually visited, laid foundation stones for
different projects and blessed this unique
project.
Progress
:
On 7th May, 2001 the 1st phase of the project
went on stream in the august presence of Shri Swamijis
of Gokarn Math, Kavle Math and Chitrapur Math, when Shri
Ramdev Vithal Mandir was consecrated, residential blocks
for old age people
inaugurated and a medical relief centre, declared
open. There was a crowd of about 3000 people from all
over the country.
On
26th Oct., 2001 the project became
functional. Shri R. V. Deshpande, Hon.Minister of
Karnataka Government declared it open. Since then
admissions to the Ashram have started.
On
7th April, 2002 the Annual Programme took
place in the holy presence of Shri Gokarn Math Swamiji
with the participation of good number of Saraswat
leaders including the Central Minister, Hon Shri Suresh
Prabhu. The decorated Mahadwar to the Sevashram was
declared open by Shri Swamiji. Besides the Minister,
many leading personalities and donors were honoured.
Social
Service : The Ashram has conducted free health
check-up, eye care camp and also the free distribution
of exercise books to the students of the nearby
villages. Thus the land that was barren just 3.1/2years
ago has started blossoming into a tiny township called
Shantikunj Sevashram.
