History : Bovikan is a small village, 16 kms from Kasaragod (on Kasaragod - Mysore Road) which has only three G.S.B. families. It is a rare temple where the presiding deity is Lord Shri Nagaraj, the serpent god. Naga Darshan Seva (Oracle) was started with the blessings of H. H. Shrimad Sudhindra Tirth Swamiji in
1970, when Shri Swamiji renamed this place as "SHRI NAGARAJ NAGAR".
During the 5 days Deva Prasana held in the temple in 1972, it was revealed that about 800 years ago this was a place of worship but was destroyed by non-believers. The temple has a "Nagaban Udbhava Stana" of Lord Nagaraj. It has devotees of other communities also who participate in all activities. This temple is also Sarpa Dosha Nivarana, and Santati Pradanam place which means if one has the curse from serpents he will be
released of the curse. Then for childless couples, it brings forth children too. This is what the devotees have actually experienced.
